KASUMBALESA GENDER ASSESSMENT

On 7th August 2025, the Zambia Federation of Associations of Women in Business (ZFAWIB) held a high-level stakeholder meeting at Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka to present the findings of a gender assessment conducted at Kasumbalesa Border. The study aimed to uncover the extent of gender disparities experienced by women traders and to provide actionable insights for developing inclusive, gender-responsive trade policies and interventions.

The meeting convened key stakeholders from across sectors, including twelve Members of Parliament, the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, the Zambia Revenue Authority, the Public-Private Dialogue Forum, the Cross Border Traders Association, and CAMFED. Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit of the initiative and the shared commitment to empowering women in cross-border trade.

By grounding discussions in both evidence and lived experience, the session marked an important step toward strengthening advocacy, influencing policy, and promoting a safe and equitable trading environment for women at the border.
